For the 2008 exhibition ‘Little Pieces’ at Shudder Gallery I was tasked with making use of an under-height basement space that felt noticeably different from the high-ceilinged area above. Connecting the two spaces through an installation seemed the obvious solution, so after receiving permission I drilled through the upstairs floor to the basement below — connecting the spaces.

Upstairs, gallery visitors were confronted with a pile of coins and a ‘rabbit hole’ view to the basement below, which was covered with 100,000 Canadian pennies. Once downstairs, visitors could walk on and interact with the installation freely.
